Far away venues could require a little more planning, though, since employees could face traffic issues or problems with finding the venue. Hold short meetings with a clear agenda
Many businesses do prefer to do a little business at these types of events, even if the main focus is team building or fun. If you’re thinking of including a meeting or two, make sure that the meetings are short and with a clear agenda of what you want to cover. If your meeting is too long, your employees will just feel as if they might as well be back in the office. Hand out a specific agenda and then make sure to stick to it! Some workers may bring up a topic or two that’s not on the agenda. If possible, try to table this topic until you’re back in the office or approach the employee on a one-to-one basis if it’s something that needs to be taken care of immediately.
What are you going to do?
Motivational speakers are commonly found at these events, but what if you’re looking for something a little more interactive? Look for a venue that allows you to participate in more active games like kickball, football, soccer or even dodge ball. These games will help foster a sense of teamwork, as long as all your employees understand that they’re just meant to be fun and not taken too seriously.
What are you going to do about food and drinks?
When you’re away from the office all day, your employees are going to need something to eat and drink. It’s common to have a coffee and tea bar in the mornings, but what about lunches? You could just give your employees an hour off and let them fend for themselves, but this isn’t exactly conducive to fostering a sense of teamwork. Before you plan your menu, ask your employees if they have any food sensitivities or allergies so that you can make sure everyone has something they can eat.
